Sailing Rules for SRSC Races
A. Boats on opposite tacks
Port-Tack boats shall keep clear of Starboard Tack boats
B. Boats on the same tack, overlapped
When boats are on the same tack and overlapped the windward boat shall keep clear
C. Boats on the same tack, not over lapped
The boat clear astern shall keep clear. If later an overlap to leeward is established while within two boat lengths of the overlapped boat, the overlapping boat shall not sail above her proper course. That unless the overlapping boat sails astern of the overlapped boat.
D. Boats while tacking
After passing head to wind the tacking boat will keep clear until close hauled on the new tack
E. Rounding Marks of the Course
A boat having established an overlap before 2 boat lengths of the mark and closer to the mark than the overlapped boat shall be given room to round the mark including room to jibe.
(To prevent accidents a boat shall hail if she believes that an overlap has been established or an overlap has been broken and the hail shall occur prior to reaching the two boat lengths zone and be acknowledged by the overlapped boat/boats)
(Further to prevent accidents, if an overlap is broken within the two boat length zone, the outside boat shall keep clear)
F. Touching a Mark of the course.
A boat shall not touch a mark of the course and upon doing so shall get free of other boats as soon as possible and complete one turn including one tack and one jibe.
G. Avoiding contact
A boat shall avoid contact with another boat if reasonably possible.
(However, a right of way boat or one entitled to room)
a. Need not act to avoid contact until it is clear that the other boat is not keeping clear or giving room, and
b. Shall not be penalized under this rule unless there is contact that results in serious damage
F. A boat can acknowledge a rule infraction by getting clear of other boats and completing two turns including two tacks and two jibes.
I. After the start of a race a boat returning to the pre-start side of the starting line shall keep clear of other boats
